1.1.5 is a bug fix update which includes:

  • New app icon!
  • Fixed problem with devices where the camera preview resolution is considerably lower than the screen resolution
  • More informative feedback to user when camera unable to focus – try holding the camera further from the text
  • Several other bug fixes

This is a bug fix update for 3.7.0.

Also adds support for Sharing Chinese text to Hanping’s new Notification feature. For example, if you select some Chinese text, instead of Copying to Clipboard, you can Share to Hanping Notification.  This has the bonus of not unnecessarily touching your Clipboard (which might trigger other Clipboard-listening apps).

  • Clipboard Monitoring (Android 4.0+) – when you copy Chinese characters into the Clipboard you can optionally get a system notification showing the definition. This monitoring can be triggered at system startup (the app now requests “run at startup” permission) or triggered manually (in the action bar overflow menu). Unfortunately, many Android 4.3 devices have a well-known bug preventing realtime Clipboard monitoring from working properly. In this case, you will need to use the Clipboard icon in the notification, to trigger Hanping to read the Clipboard. Please read this topic on our forum for more information
  • New app icon – the old one looked, oh so Gingerbready, so we’ve gone for a clean simple approach to better reflect the app’s UI and UX. We hope you like it!
  • Fixed a bug where downloading audio or dictionaries would sometimes crash.
  • Other bug fixes

New Permission request: “run at startup” – allows the Clipboard Monitoring feature to be triggered when your device starts up.  Use the settings icon in the Clipboard Monitoring notification, to configure this.

Old app: Hanping Chinese Classic 3.1.6/3.1.7 released!

The is the old free version of Hanping Chinese Dictionary. It is only useful to people running Android 2.2 or earlier.

If your Android device is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread (or higher) you will most probably want to install the new Hanping Chinese Dictionary Lite app (and uninstall this Classic app if necessary).  You can also keep both apps installed at the same time, if you wish. But it is probably a good idea to close (Force Stop) one app before opening the other.

The version on Google Play and Amazon Appstore is only available to devices running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and earlier.  If you are running a later version of Android and still wish to run this Classic app, then you can download it here.

1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 1.1.4 are bug fix updates on 1.1.0 which includes:

  • Merges multiple matches into one (e.g. 的 de)

The is the old free version of Hanping Chinese Dictionary. It is only useful to people running Android 2.2 or earlier.

3.6.5 fixes many small bugs in 3.6.4.

  • Fixed: custom font was not being set properly when changed in Settings
  • Fixed: better handling of corrupt dictionary and audio zip files
  • Fixed: NPE when homescreen widget data was being refreshed and drawn at the same time
  • Hanzi font Import… now only allows you to select TTF and OTF files
  • Better localization for common strings like OK and Cancel
  • Some other bug fixes

3.0.13 is for devices running Android versions earlier than 2.3 (Gingerbread):

  • Some bug fixes
