We’ve just released a new free edition of Hanping Chinese Dictionary targeted specifically for Gingerbread (and higher) devices. The old free edition has been renamed to “Hanping Chinese Dict Classic”.
How does the new free app differ from the old free app?
- Dictionary data is included in the application. This means there is no need for an internet connection to download/install the dictionary data on first run. Therefore, the app is now completely self-contained which is important in case you swap (or reformat) your SD card or your dictionary database somehow gets corrupted unexpectedly
- The new app is much larger (10MB vs 1MB) but this should not be a problem for most people because Google Play Store now supports smart updates (for Gingerbread and higher) and so bandwidth usage should be similar to as before
- No ads! In the old version, ad revenue was used to pay for servers hosting the dictionary data. Now that the dictionary data is included in the application, Google Play Store covers those costs and so we can remove the ads!
- Updated UI to use Android’s latest Holo theme
Please don’t forget to leave a rating and/or comment, to help others find Hanping on the Play Store.
