How to transfer starred lists to new device

Post by antun »

Hi there,

I've just upgraded my phone. How can I transfer the starred lists of words from my old phone to my new one?

I had a look in Android/data/com.embermitre.dictroid/ but didn't see anything that looked like it might be the lists.

Thanks,

Antun

UPDATE August 2013: Hanping now has a Backup/Restore feature, which can be found in the navigation drawer by sliding from the left edge of the screen.

Hi Antun - you were almost there!

Please look in:

Code: Select all

Android/data/com.embermitre.dictroid/zh/user
where you will find the starred.db file.

If you have the ABC English-Chinese dictionary installed, then you may also want to transfer english starred words:

Code: Select all

Android/data/com.embermitre.dictroid/en/user/starred.db

why not offer a cloud service for the starred lists? It will save a lot of time when we change the device and many surprises such lose in a while 2.000 words we may need to study for the exams... and it's not needed a so huge space... isn't this a good idea embermitre?

Cloud-hosting of lists would be nice. There are a lot of possibilities for writing applications that share that data. I use the android "desktop" widget that comes with the Hanping dictionary to test my hanzi recognition skills. But it's not ideal. I'd love to write apps (both web and android-based) that used my own starred lists to test my knowledge.

e.g. I wrote this Mac Dashboard widget that uses pre-loaded HSK lists for the character data: http://antunkarlovac.com/software/widge ... challenge/ But it wouldn't be hard for me to adjust it to read a starred list, if it was available on the web.

Thanks for your suggestion. Indeed getting a decent sync solution going would be really nice, but at the same time is a lot of work (upfront and ongoing). I will look into it.

Good luck with your Mac widget!

UPDATE: From version 3.5 of Hanping Pro, you can backup and restore all your user data (including starred words, search history and preferences).

how to restore backed up zip file to new device?

Post by wes133 »

I bought your pro version of hanping pro a long time ago and just recently changed phones. In doing so, I backed up all of my starred lists and custom made lists using your backup/restore feature and emailed it to myself. I downloaded the zip file to the downloads folder on my new phone and tried to open the file but it is greyed out and unable to be picked. I then tried to unzip the contents and try to open the data file but nothing happens when I pick the data file. The hundreds of words I have saved won't upload to my new phone. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, please can you try the latest version (4.0) from Google Play store. Does the import work on that version?
