Feature Requests

Post by f_at_lo »

First let me say this: thank you for this awesome app. I running Hanping Pro on my HTC sensation and just find it an incredibly usefull tool. The search is really quick not matter if you start with PinYin, English or the handwritten HanZi. :D

As a learner of Chinese I started to mark all words as favorites which I have already come across. I would love to ...

... be able to sort the favorites. Today, they appear in the (reverse) chronological order as they were marked.
... be able to export/email the favorites or a subsample defined by a tag as a list. Why: a (printed) list could be helpful as a tool to learn this group of characters.
... be able to create a quiz from the favorites or a subsample defined by a tag. How? (a) Select the sample you want to be quizzed about. (b) choose how you would like to be challenged (i) PinYin, (ii) English or (3) HanZi. (c) Select which kind of answer you would like to return (i) PinYin, (ii) English or (3) HanZi, (d) start quiz

Anf finally a crazy one:
... be able to take photo of HanZi and have Hanping Pro help me identify the characters

And still ... I am so happy that I found this App. Thanks!

Thank you for a great app!

I would like to be able to take a photo of hanzi characters and have it translate. I would be willing to pay extra for the feature.

Thanks a lot for the amazing Hanping app, it's really helpful in Chinese learning!
I have just bought it, then the only request I feel to ask actually is to have the possibility to set the widget transparency
No more, it's really perfect! thanks embermitre!

I really like the new ABC dictionary. I have two minor suggestions for improvements:

It would be nice to have an option to show the full meaning of the abbreviations (a list of these or replacing them directly in the dictionary). Some I can guess easily (like N. for noun), some I am not entirely sure (B.F. base form?) and others not at all (V.O.?).

When I click on a sample sentence it is displayed in a larger font and I can click on each character to get its definition, however the definition is from CC-CEDICT and not ABC. I think it should be ABC by default.

Thanks very much Nada.

There are quite a few ABC improvements that will be coming in the next few releases. I know what you mean about the abbreviations - I also have to look some up occasionally! I'm still figuring out the best way to do this.

The CC-CEDICT definition thing sounds like a bug - thanks for bringing it up. I'll look into it.

The CC-CEDICT definition bug has been fixed in 2.7.1

i would like to request a more efficient way to edit incorrectly entered multi character words. When using the handwriting input, sometimes i write the wrong character in the middle of the word, and would like to be able to edit what i have entered rather than rewrite all the characters again or copying and pasting. At the moment only the X is available when you tap the input text box. i would like the paintbrush button next to the cross which allows quick edit. Would save me a lot of time in a restaurant when looking up menu items, especially when the text is small and stained with sauce :)

Thanks, yes this is on the todo list and I agree it's a pain!

I'm not quite sure exactly how to implement it though. Putting the icon in the box is not too tempting because of the already cramped space. I'll have a think about it...

I have been using the free version for a year. Impressed! I want to go to the Pro version, but I cannot find details of features anywhere. Please help.

* Do I need to be connected to the internet to use the app?
* does the Pro version recognize spoken Mandarin words and display the dictionary entries corresponding to them?
