Hi and thanks for the report.

This sounds like a memory issue.

Please use this app to send the logs to me at [email protected] :

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... son.logcat

1. Run Cat Log and use the "x" icon to clear the logs
2. Go to the Hanping app and reproduce the error
3. Switch back to Cat Log then hit Menu > Send Log

Thanks.

I've downloaded Cat Log, but it says CatLog now requires ROOT access to read logs.

Can you suggest other log reader that doesn't require ROOT?

Unfortunately, that's a limitation in Android starting from Jelly Bean. I assume you are running Jelly Bean?

Alternatively, you might be able to get the logs by pressing these buttons at the same time:

POWER + VOLUME-UP + VOLUME-DOWN

Although this may vary from device to device so you may need to search around for the Nexus S instructions.

Yes, I'm using Jelly Bean 4.1.2

I've sent you the logs that I captured using "Android's system Settings > Developer options > Take bug report"

Please let me know if you need anything else from me.

A few days ago, my Hanping Pro informed me that it was downloading the latest lists. After it was done, all of my tags were gone. I'd built up a significant number of tags so I'd hate to lose them. Are they backed up somewhere? I'm running a Nexus 7 with the latest JB update.

This can only happen if your starred database becomes corrupted (usually because of SD card/storage hardware failures).

Please have a look in your storage in this folder: /Android/data/com.embermitre.dictroid/zh/user to see if there are any backups of the starred.db

Also please see this post about backing up your starred lists: /2012/07/hanping-chinese-dictionary-pro-3-0-5-released

p.s. If it's "downloading the latest lists" then you must be using a very old version of Hanping. The latest version now is 3.2.10 (Pro) and 3.2.2 (Lite)

No, didn't see any backups there unfortunately, so I guess they're gone. Too bad there's no automated backups of these starred lists. I had about 500 characters starred and I'm sad to lose all that work. A typical user would have a difficult time figuring out how to do backups themselves. I wish there was a way to sync the lists to a server or to Dropbox or Drive.

My version is 3.2.10 Pro. I don't remember the exact message because it was quick, and then I got distracted by the fact that my starred words were gone... but it was something about downloading the latest dictionary/words. It also had to re-download the voice pack.

I'm very sorry to hear that.

I have heard of some people using Dropbox to automatically backup their starred lists. Can you not configure dropbox to point to that "user" folder?

If the voice pack was also affected then there must have been a major SD card failure. I can only think that "downloading latest dictionary" message was simply installing the dictionary - was it a mainly blank screen with a blue progress bar along the top?

That would mean the entire hanping (com.embermitre.dictroid) folder was either deleted or corrupted. Please can you run some SD card tools to check for errors?

I will see if this is possible. As far as I know, Dropbox for Android doesn't sync automatically like on a PC, so it will still be a manual process.

If I remember correctly, it was just a smaller box that popped up in front of the app. I don't think it was full-screen. I could be wrong though.

My search history is still intact, so I think only the starred db was affected. I looked around in the market for SD card tools that can check my internal storage on the Nexus 7 but I couldn't see anything that did what I needed. Can you recommend an app?
